Waiting

Waiting can be difficult - very difficult sometimes. Often we wait for resolution to problems that feel bigger than our own ability to solve. Here in Psalm 40, David waits on the Lord. We are not told how long he has waited - just that he has “waited patiently”. Next, the imagery is beautiful. The Lord, inclined Himself to David, heard his cry, lifted him out of the pit and set him on solid ground. This process of David waiting and experiencing God pulling him out of the “miry bog” and into a secure state, filled his mouth with praise. He described it as putting a new song in his mouth”. Dear Christian, when trouble comes, sometimes we must wait, and while we may wait long, we do not wait in vain. 1. “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” Psalm 34:8 ESV.

My Help and My Deliverer

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

40

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.

He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.
