One year ago on September 17, 2022 the Department of Tennessee came to our meeting and presented us with our Marine Corps League Charter making us an official Detachment. At that time we had 23 members. As of today we currently have 43 members. 22 of these are now Life members.
Since that time we have attended Vet Fest and several other veteran events for recruitment purposes. Our efforts have helped veterans from every branch of service. Our Detachment has repeatedly given aid to the Suicide Prevention program which is our main focus. We have provided manpower to help in the recovery of storm damage, attended Wreaths Across America spending two days helping to unload and lay wreaths on 13,000 graves at the Middle Tennessee Veterans cemetery, participated in the Dickson County Christmas Parade, provided Christmas care packages and awarded quilts of valor to veterans in the Dickson Health and Rehab Center, donated an electric wheelchair valued at $7500 to a veteran in need, helped Farm Fresh Vintage Finds sell Christmas trees which raised money toward our scholarship fund, gave $1000 to a veteran and his family that lost their home in a fire. We held the Rose Program at the Dickson Walmart on Memorial weekend and held our major Fireworks fund raiser which gave us $26,540.35 after expenses.
We were honored to present Mr. James Johnson with the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal from the South Korean Government. We also presented Jacob Seay with the Marine Corps League Eagle Scout Good Citizenship award.
Currently we are finishing up our soon to be released website which will link to our Facebook as well as our scholarships which will be active in Fall 2024.
In this past year our Detachment has accumulated over 5,300 volunteer hours.
With a healthy budget in place and beginning our new fiscal year we are looking forward to helping many more veterans and youth organizations. We have just donated $1000 to Quilts of Valor and donated $500 to the PGA Golf program which helps veterans suffering from PTSD.
It is important that we remember why we have come together to form this Detachment. It is to honor the memory of LCPL Jeffrey Adam Bishop, our fallen brother and his family. We appreciate you and thank you for being here today.
